Wages

  • Fire Engineering offers well above average starting pay in excess of $40,000 per year including benefits.
  • Rapid advancement upon completion of AFSA training booklets & NICET testing.

Your Duties

As a fire sprinkler/alarm designer, your duties include:

  • Manage, coordinate, and survey various fire protection projects in order to insure quality, code compliance, and efficient installation.
  • Create fire sprinkler working drawings on CAD.
  • Calculate the hydraulic demand of sprinkler systems.
  • List piping and other system components for fabrication and installation.
 
Work Conditions

The standard work week for fire sprinkler/alarm designers is 40 hours (8 hours a day, 5 days a week). As with many careers in construction, there are peak periods that will require you to work overtime. The number of additional hours you work each week depends on construction schedules and company work loads, to name a few.

 
Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, and specifications.
  • AutoCAD skills required.
  • Math, logic, and troubleshooting skills helpful.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly.
